You're reading: Medvedev likely to visit Ukraine in fall

The fifth meeting of the Russian-Ukrainian Interstate Commission, chaired by the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych and Dmitry Medvedev, is likely to take place this autumn, a source in the diplomatic circles told Interfax-Ukraine.

"There haven’t been any preparations for this meeting yet, which means it will not take place in July. As for August, it is a holiday season, therefore, the meeting is likely to be held in the fall," he told the agency.

Initially, the parties planned to hold the meeting in Ukraine in the summer of 2011.

The Ukrainian and Russian presidents last met in April 2011.

The two countries’ leaders were expected to meet in Sevastopol on July 31 to jointly attend a military parade on the Russian Navy Day.

However, Medvedev’s press secretary Natalya Timakova told Interfax last week that, "the date of the Russian-Ukrainian presidential meeting has yet to be determined and is being negotiated via diplomatic channels."
