The bulk carrier B Oceania and the Xin Tai Hai vessel collided at 2240 on July 29, near Singapore, as a result of which the bulk carrier sank, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said on Monday, referring to the Embassy of Ukraine in Singapore.

According to the ministry, 23 sailors, including eight Ukrainians, were on board the bulk carrier.

"All of the crewmembers were rescued on two rescue boats. Another vessel, the Ikaragua, picked them up and took them to Singapore on July 30. None of the Ukrainian sailors were injured in the accident," reads the embassy’s release.

The Foreign Ministry said that after the investigation into the accident, the Ukrainian sailors will return home.

"The Ukrainian embassy is monitoring the situation and is ensuring it is in constant communication with [both] the captain of the vessel and the agency for providing the Ukrainians with the assistance they need," Dykusarov said.
