Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira has arrived at the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, which is continuing to consider a gas supply case opened against former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that members of the BYT-Batkivschyna and Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense factions, Front for Change Party leader Arseniy Yatseniuk, leader of the People’s Rukh (Movement) of Ukraine Borys Tarasiuk, diplomats and the clergy were also in the courtroom.

The courtroom is completely full.

"We’re not talking whether they will release me or not. We’re not currently talking about my arrest. The point is that this can happen to everybody at any moment," Tymoshenko told reporters.

When asked by journalists about the conditions of her detention in jail, Tymoshenko said that she was ready for such a scenario and that the authorities would not wait for her complaints.

Tymoshenko’s defense lawyers have asked the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv to release the ex-premier from custody.

Tymoshenko’s lawyer Yuriy Sukhov announced a respective petition before the start of a court session on Monday.

On August 5, Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court Judge Rodion Kireyev satisfied a petition by the prosecution in the Russian gas supply contract case to place Tymoshenko in custody.
