You're reading: Yanukovych: We are 100% sure Euro 2012 will be held properly

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that holding the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine would form a positive image for Ukraine in the world.

According to the Ukraine-2012 Information Center, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the radiology department of Kyiv Regional Oncology Dispenser on Thursday, the president said that in the last year Ukraine had made significant progress in the preparations for the tournament, and eliminated drastic delays from the preparations schedule.

"This was an ambitious target for us. This is the face of our state, the face of each citizen," Yanukovych said.

The president also said that the championship would be hosted properly.

"Now we are 100% sure that Euro 2012 next year will be held in a way befitting a strong modern state that looks to the future. Euro 2012 is not just a competition, it is our country’s development," Yanukovych said.
