You're reading: President asks government to implement plan to meet Ukraine’s commitments to Council of Europe

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has ordered Prime Minister Mykola Azarov to analyze the state of the implementation of an action plan to meet Ukraine's commitments on its membership of the Council of Europe, the presidential press service reported on Thursday.

The head of state issued a respective instruction following his working visit to France to participate in the PACE session, which was made on June 21, 2011.

According to the document, the premier has to make proposals by October 1, 2011 regarding the possibility of the early fulfillment of the tasks envisaged by the plan.

In addition, the president instructed Deputy Prime Minister Sergiy Tigipko, Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych and Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko to take measures within the same period regarding the signing by Ukraine of the Council of Europe’s convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.
