You're reading: Media: Gaddafi riches hidden in Ukraine

Some of the more than $50 billion accumulated by the regime of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was hidden in Ukraine, the Inopressa Internet portal claimed on Monday, referred to an article in Italy's Corriere della Sera newspaper.

"While Gaddafi managed to resist for such a long time, it was only due to three things: he is rude, clever and rich. Together with his sons, he concealed riches in various places: South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Ukraine and in other places where nobody asks questions when you arrive with bags of money," the newspaper wrote.

According to the findings of the French special services, "Gaddafi’s supporters have at their disposal at least $50 billion."

"Libya’s leader used this money to hire secret agents, pay mercenaries and finance terrorists," Inopressa claimed.

The text also quotes many defectors from the former dictator’s regime, who said that Gaddafi’s clan, "is still sure that he has room for maneuver, and by using money it’s always possible to persuade the rebels to look the other way."

As the mass media reported, Gaddafi has said he is ready to start holding talks with the opposition about a handover of power. One of the sons of the Libyan leader, Saadi, was to hold the talks.

However, the Libyan opposition has refused to enter talks with their country’s former leader.
