You're reading: Kazakhstan, Ukraine to enhance cooperation as Ukraine’s OSCE chairmanship approaches

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Hryschenko has invited his Kazakhstani counterpart Erzhan Kazykhanov to visit Kyiv.

The two Foreign Ministers met on Friday, September 2, in Dushanbe during a session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS, the press office of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan said in a statement.

"The sides emphasized that the dynamically developing economic ties between the two countries had potential for further growth, particularly in the fields of energy cooperation and food supplies to the world market," the statement said.

The ministers also discussed interaction of Kazakhstani and Ukrainian diplomats within the OSCE. "In the context of Astana’s successful chairmanship of the OSCE in 2010 and the continuing participation of Kazakhstan in the OSCE Troika the sides agreed to exchange experience and enhance cooperation ahead of Ukraine’s chairmanship of the Organization in 2013," the statement said.

Kostiantyn Hryschenko and Erzhan Kazykhanov also discussed the current situation in the Middle East and North Africa stressing the importance of prompt stabilization in Libya.
