The assistance of the United States in Ukraine's EU integration is important for Kyiv, President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"The assistance of the United States in developing Ukraine as a democratic European state and making progress towards European integration remains a very important question for Ukraine," he said at a meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Alexander Vershbow in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Yanukovych said that cooperation between Ukraine and the United States remained a priority in Ukraine’s foreign policy.
"And we are interested in further cooperation with the United States in the format of a strategic partnership," he added.
Yanukovych noted that Ukraine attached great importance to the issue of partnership with NATO.
He said Ukraine was cooperating with NATO in accordance with annual national plans.
