Ukraine is planning to help the people of Libya to restore their country, the Ukrainian Foreign ministry has said.

"With this aim in mind, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will participate in a summit on the Libya issue [the second meeting of the Group of Friends of the New Libya], as part of his visit to New York to participate in the 66th session of the UN General Assembly," the press secretary of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleksandr Dykusarov has said at a briefing.

He added that the fact that Yanukovych was invited to participate in this international forum demonstrates recognition of Ukraine’s importance as a contributor to international security.

According to Dykusarov, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko went to New York with the president to meet with a number of foreign ministers. During these meetings, the ministers will tackle important issues of bilateral cooperation.
