Speaker of Moldovan Parliament Marian Lupu has said he believes that Ukraine will continue to contribute to settling the Transdniestrian conflict.

"I have expressed my appreciation and gratitude for [Ukraine’s] constructive position in the negotiating process, and in the resumption of the formal talks, as was agreed at the recent meetings of the 5+2 group in Moscow…

Ukraine plays an important role in identifying and implementing the model of the final solution of the Transdniestrian issue," Lupu said at a joint briefing with Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn in Kyiv on Monday.

As reported, on September 22, Moscow hosted a round of informal consultations on the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict in the 5+2 format, with the participation of representatives of the conflicting parties (Moldova and Transdniestria), mediators (Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE) and observers (the United States and the European Union).

Its participants agreed to resume formal talks on the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict in this format.
