NATO not to send its servicemen to Ukraine to help in holding Euro 2012
Sep 28, 2011 at 12:20 | Interfax-Ukraine"NATO will help Ukraine with the recommendations at the preparatory stage, but will not send its servicemen during the actual tournament," Evert Somer, civil emergency expert from NATO, told reporters on Thursday.
According to him, Ukraine earlier asked the alliance for expert assistance in preparing for Euro 2012. However, Kyiv hasn't requested yet any assistance in providing security during the tournament itself, Somer said.
NATO can provide such assistance during the Euro 2012 only at the request of Ukraine, he added. At the same time, according to the NATO expert, such assistance could be provided only within the framework outlined by Ukraine itself.
