Ukraine and Moldova have agreed to intensify work on the demarcation of their joint border, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He noted that on Sept. 26-27, Acting Moldovan President and Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu made an official visit to Kyiv, during which he met with Ukrainian leaders.

During these meetings, the sides discussed the completion of the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, he added.

"While discussing the problems of completing the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border, agreement was reached on the need to step up this work both at the level of experts and at the level of the joint Ukrainian-Moldovan demarcation commission," Dykusarov said.

He said that the Moldovan side had been informed about the need to find new approaches to solving problems on the basis of balancing the interests of Ukraine and Moldova.

Dykusarov said that Ukraine had also raised the issue of Moldova’s speeding up the ratification of an agreement between the two countries on cooperation in ensuring the rights of national minorities.

In addition, during the visit, the sides agreed to step up efforts to regulate relations in the sphere of property.

"In this context, the Ukrainian side expressed its readiness to ratify as soon as possible a protocol of amendments to the agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Moldova on the mutual recognition of rights and the settlement of property relations dated Aug. 11, 1994," he said.

In response to a request from the Moldovan side, Kyiv also confirmed that in the near future, the Ukrainian government would take a decision to exclude Moldova from the list of countries whose nationals, while entering Ukraine, must prove their solvency, Dykusarov added.
