The number of those supporting the idea of Ukraine's accession to the EU is larger in the western and central parts of Ukraine and much smaller in the southern part, while the shares of advocates and opponents of this idea in the eastern part are about the same, the Razumkov Center sociological service said citing outcomes of a poll of 2,009 respondents it conducted in all regions of Ukraine, in Kyiv and Crimea, from September 29 to October 4.

The share of EU membership supporters is larger among younger respondents (63% among those aged from 18 to 29 and only 40.8% among those older than 60).

Asked to choose between Ukraine’s accession to the EU and the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union, 43.7% chose the former and 30.5% the latter.

More people in the western and central parts of Ukraine prefer the European Union, while those from the southern and eastern parts of Ukraine would mainly go for the Customs Union.
