A leather football boot five meters long being made in Zaporizhia is to be placed near the Slavutych-Arena central stadium, deputy head of the Regions Party faction in Zaporizhia City Council Andriy Ivanov has said.

"We hope the project will not just get into the Ukrainian Book of Records but also into Guinness Book of World Records, he said at the press conference in the Interfax-Ukraine agency in Kyiv on Thursday.

The boot is to be put on a pedestal near the Slavutych-Arena central football stadium.

The designer of the boot, Yuriy Oleksandrov, said it is to be 5-5.2 meters long, two meters wide and more than three meters high.

Over 400 meters of leather is being used to make it – enough to produce about 200 pairs of men’s boots.

The overall weight of the boot is about 1.8 tonnes. Oleksandrov noted that he only used real leather. Moreover, the boot will be placed under a roof to protect it from the weather.

The boot will cost Hr 100,000 to produce. It is planned to present the giant boot and register it in the Ukrainian Book of Records in November.

Meanwhile, a member of the drafting council of the Ukrainian Book of Records National project, Tatiana Demchenko, said that after the presentation and confirmation of the record in Ukraine, an application to the Guinness Book of World Records is to be made.

Today, a Polish citizen who made a boot three meters 45 centimeters long holds the record, Ivanov said.
