You're reading: Ukraine, Brazil sign a number of bilateral documents

A number of documents between Ukraine and Brazil were signed in the presence of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia on Tuesday, the press service of the Ukrainian president has reported.

The sides signed an intergovernmental agreement on military and technical cooperation, a memorandum of understanding between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Brazilian government on cooperation in health care and medical sciences, and a memorandum on the creation of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Advisory Committee on Agriculture between the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry and the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply.

The sides also signed a memorandum of understanding between the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), a memorandum of understanding between the State Agency for Investment and Management of National Projects of Ukraine and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) on the promotion of bilateral direct investment, and a memorandum of understanding between the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry and the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy on the production of biofuels.

"The intergovernmental agreement on military and technical cooperation will facilitate the establishment of bilateral mutually beneficial long-term cooperation in the military and technical sphere. The document, in particular, concerns the development of scientific research and new technologies," the press service reported.

The memorandum of understanding on cooperation in health care and medical sciences was signed in order to coordinate policies in the medical sphere and promote the development of cooperation in the areas of primary and specialized medical care, medical education, disease prevention and public health care.

The memorandum on the creation of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Advisory Committee on Agriculture was drafted in order to implement the agreements reached during intergovernmental negotiations on the development of cooperation in the agricultural sector.

"The memorandum of understanding between the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and the Embrapa Corporation reflects the interest of these institutions in the unification of scientific potential concerning the exchange of technology for the production of biofuels, the development of rapid methods to control the quality of sugar-containing raw materials, selection in plant growing and cattle breeding, the introduction of new technological schemes and the means of plant protection, joint participation in the implementation of international and regional projects, the organization of bilateral events, the training of experts, etc.," the press service said.

The memorandum on the promotion of bilateral direct investment is aimed at facilitating the attraction of bilateral direct investment and ensuring the economic growth of the two countries by exchanging information and providing services, as well as establishing a joint working group and drafting respective documents.
