You're reading: Yanukovych inspects work on construction and reconstruction of Lviv airport

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych inspected work on the construction and reconstruction of facilities operated by the Lviv International Airport state enterprise during his working visit to Lviv region on Friday, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state, in particular, inspected the airport’s runway, as well as passenger arrival and departure halls.

Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov reported to the president that all of the planned work on the construction and reconstruction of the airport’s facilities were going according to schedule. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy, in turn, noted that the Lviv airport would be one of the best in Europe, reads the statement.

According to the press service, the plan of work at the airport foresees the reconstruction of the airfield, the construction of a new passenger terminal and the reconstruction of the existing one, as well as the construction of external engineering networks.

The reconstruction of the airport’s runway is being conducted step by step, without interrupting its operation, and after reconstruction work is completed, the runway will be over 3.3 kilometers long.

The new passenger terminal is to be commissioned in December 2011. After the terminal is completed, its capacity will be 2,000 passengers per hour.
