Head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine (FTUU) Vasyl Khara has resigned.

"Today, on November 7, during a conference call between the leaders of organizations belonging to the FTUU presidium, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine Khara issued a statement on his resignation as head of the FTUU," the federation’s press service said in a statement.

Khara is a Regions Party MP who heads the parliamentary committee on social policy and labor. He was elected as chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine on November 20, 2008 and re-elected to this post on March 24, 2011.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office said that in June and July 2011, 35 criminal cases were opened regarding the illegal appropriation of sanatoriums run by the FTUU. Khara, in turn, said that the Prosecutor General’s Office was carrying out the orders of oligarchs close to the authorities in order to take away the property of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine, in particular, sanatorium and resort complexes. The administration of the Ukrainian president advised Khara not to engage in politics.
