You're reading: Yanukovych appoints Mohyliov to Crimean post

Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Anatoliy Mohyliov has been appointed chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The nomination was approved by President Viktor Yanukovych, according to the official presidential website.

Mohyliov replaces the the previous Crimean chief, Vasyl Dzharty, who died on Aug. 17, 2011.

In 2007,m Mohyliov was appointed a head of the main department of the Interior Ministry in Crimea, then a deputy interior minister of Crimea.

The major-general was appointed interior minister on March 11, 2010, where he commanded the nation’s more than 300,000 police officers.

“Today Muslim celebrate Eid al-Adha and I guess Yanukovych sacrificed him instead of a ram. Though I am sure Crimean tatars won’t be pleased with such a gift, as Mohyliov was the one to organize several specialoperations against them, trying to take away lands he claimed were illegally assumed, called tatars Nazi accomplices etc," said Gennadiy Moskal,ukrainian lawmaker, who named Mohyliov as one of the candidates for the position, before he was officially appointed.
