BYuT-Batkivschyna parliamentary faction member Natalia Korolevska has appealed to the District Administrative Court of Kyiv with a request to declare unlawful the refusal of the judge of Kyiv's Pechersky District Court Rodion Kireyev to allow visits to leader of the Batkivschyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko in prison.

According to the Korolevska’s press service, in her appeal, Korolevska said that on October 14, 2011 she addressed Kireyev with a request for a permission to visit Tymoshenko.

"I made this request for the following reasons: I as a member of the Batkivschyna political party and a member of its leadership who coordinates its activity, needed to meet with the party’s leader Tymoshenko, as she is detained, is not allowed to travel, but she still has the right to carry out public activity, to which she paid a lot of attention before being isolated from the community; as an MP I meet with voters, supporters and members of the Batkivschyna political party, who care about the situation around Tymoshenko’s detention conditions," reads the appeal.

Korolevska added that on October 17 the judge officially rejected her appeal.

"Judge Kireyev explained his refusal by the fact that I did not indicate reasons showing the necessity to meet with the convict Tymoshenko. Kireyev also said that since her defender sees the convict, other members of the party do not need to see her," Korolevska said.

She said that the actions of Kireyev violate a number of legal acts, in particular, the Convention on Human Rights, the Constitution of Ukraine, and the statement of the European Court of Human Rights on the status of a people’s deputy.
