Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has stressed the need to adopt a strategy for the development of the country's humanitarian sphere.

"I believe that we must draw up a mechanism for the public discussion of problems in the social and humanitarian spheres," he said at a meeting of the Public Humanitarian Council under the Ukrainian president on Nov. 11.

Yanukovych said that an effective settlement of social and humanitarian problems contributed to public consolidation, cultural unity, as well as the country’s financial prosperity.

He noted that experts from the National Academy of Sciences had already drafted a respective project.

He also proposed sending this document to the Academies of Legal and Educational Sciences, the Academy of Arts and the Union of Rectors of Higher Educational Establishments of Ukraine.

"I’m asking the presidiums of these venerable institutions to organize a broad public discussion of the strategy," Yanukovych said.
