You're reading: Ex-official sentenced to five years in prison

The former head of the price inspectorate of the Ukrainian Economy Ministry, Tetiana Rud, has been sentenced to five years in prison, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has reported on Friday.

"On November 18, Desniansky District Court of Kyiv pronounced its verdict, under which the former head of the price inspectorate of the Ukrainian Economy Ministry, Tetiana Rud, was convicted for crimes under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced her under Article 69 of the Criminal Code to five years in prison, prohibited her from holding certain positions or carrying out certain activities for three years," reads the statement.

At the same time, the court suspended her imprisonment for a three-year probation period.

As reported, on Nov. 9, 2010 Rud was detained as part of an investigation into a criminal case on bribe taking.

According to the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), SBU employees jointly with the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine detained the head of the price inspectorate of the Ukrainian Economy Ministry and the deputy head of the price inspectorate in Kyiv region as they received a bribe of $50,000.

Rud was appointed to the position on March 31, 2010. On November 10, the government dismissed her for violating a state official’s oath.
