Several hundred people gathered on Independence Square in Kyiv on Tuesday evening to celebrate Freedom Day - the seventh anniversary of the Orange Revolution.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that several hundred representatives of opposition parties had gathered beside of the city’s main post office. They are holding state flags and the flags of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, the Orange Revolution Participants Coalition and the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists (CUN).

More than a hundred representatives of the Ukrainian Military Union (led by former Regions Party MP Oleh Kalashnikov) gathered in the center of the square, near the underpass. They are holding white flags with the black inscription "Fed Up!", as well as the flags of the Ukrainian Military Union.

There is a large number of police officers on Independence Square, and rallies have been separated from each other. The police surrounded those participating in the rally of the Military Union of Ukraine, and people walking through the square cannot join the rally. At the same time, the opposition rally has not been separated by the police from passersby, and people can join it.

Some people who came to Independence Square brought the symbols of the Orange Revolution – orange scarves and ribbons. The protesters from opposition forces are also distributing candles to all who came to the Maidan.

Earlier, members of the opposition forces formed a figure "7" using candles in front of the building of the main post office.

As reported, the holding of rallies on Independence Square on Nov. 22 was banned under a court ruling.
