The European Commission is concerned about a lack of transparency in court hearings on the case of ex-premier of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko held in a pre-trial detention center and calls on the local authorities to ensure transparent and fair proceedings, according to comments from the European Commission sent to Interfax-Ukraine in Brussels on Friday.
"With a deep concern we note a lack of transparency of hearings in prison, which do not correspond to the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights. We call on the authorities to ensure fair, impartial and transparent legal proceedings," the statement reads.
