Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko has again underlined Ukraine's EU integration prospects and noted the country's unique geopolitical position.

"Ukraine is in a unique geopolitical position. As a bridge between Europe and Russia, we are also a guarantor of peace and stability in the region. We attach great importance to friendly relations with all of our neighbors. But we have clearly and consciously decided to join Europe, despite the pressure that is being exercised by other interested parties," he wrote in an article published in the German newspaper Handelsblatt on Thursday, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

The minister said that Europe cannot afford to turn its back on Ukraine in an atmosphere of global instability and the complex political situation.

Hryshchenko said that the European integration course of Ukraine needed the support of Germany, which has traditionally been its friend.

"Working together, we will make sustainable progress in our bilateral relations, in issues of energy security and other reforms that will in future ensure support by Germany of Ukraine’s membership of the EU," he said.
