The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has removed MP Andriy Shevchenko of the BYT-Batkivschyna faction from the post of the head of the parliamentary committee for freedom of speech and information.

A total of 245 MPs voted for a relevant decision on Friday.

Earlier, the deputy head of the parliamentary committee for freedom of speech and information, Olena Bondarenko of the Regions Party, said that the committee insisted on Shevchenko’s dismissal for "the actual disruption of the committee’s work, attempting to politicize its activities, and attempting to put pressure on the secretariat of the committee."

Bondarenko also accused Shevchenko of abuse of power and office, and making unilateral decisions and attempting to represent them as collegial ones.
