There were around 30 Ukrainian passengers on board of the Costa Concordia cruise ship which sank on Jan. 14 after hitting a reef off the Italian coast.

No Ukrainians was injured, however, according Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleksandr Dykusarov.

“According to tentative information obtained from the Ukrainian Embassy to Italy, around 30 Ukrainians were on board of the ship. At present, information on the exact number of Ukrainians is being specified. It is known that they were not injured,” Dykusarov said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Saturday.

He said that the Ukrainian Embassy to Italy is settling the accommodation of the Ukrainian citizens in hotels.

Eight people have died after the Costa Concordia cruise ship ran aground off the Italian coast in an accident. Coast guards struggled to rescue about 50 people stuck on board.
