Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has accepted the resignation of Ukrainian Finance Minister Fedir Yaroshenko, reads a statement posted on the Web site of the head of state.

"Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych accepted a statement on the resignation of Finance Minister Fedir Yaroshenko. During today’s meeting with the head of state, the finance minister asked Yanukovych to dismiss him from the post at his own request," the presidential press service reported.

"After consulting with the prime minister, I asked the president to dismiss me from the post of finance minister at my own request. The head of state support my proposal. I wrote the statement on resignation at my own request," Yaroshenko said after meeting with the president.

According to the statement, Yaroshenko remains a supporter of the Ukrainian president’s reform policy.

"I would like to wish for the new finance minister to make fewer mistakes and work more efficiently," he said.

The press service noted that at a meeting with the president, Yaroshenko reported on the state of Ukraine’s financial system, the figures that the country had in 2011, as well as plans for 2012.

Yaroshenko was born on Dec. 5, 1949 in Khartsyzsk (Donetsk region).

In 2004-2005, he headed the State Tax Administration. In 2008-2010, he served as the deputy head of the State Tax Administration. He was appointed finance minister in March 2011.
