Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko has said that international observers will be invited to the upcoming elections to the Verkhovna Rada and that they will receive full support in carrying out their mission.

"In Strasbourg, I’m often asked about our elections. I’ll make things clear. First, Ukraine will invite international observers and provide them with the necessary assistance. Second, Ukraine wants the proper use of electoral legislation. We welcome the expert and technical assistance for the preparation of electoral commissions," the minister wrote on his page on Twitter.

He also said that he had met with PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon.

"He is mostly interested in preparations for our elections and the implementation of the rulings of the ECHR. Thanks to Mignon, I had an opportunity to practice my French. He is a nice person, a constructive person, who is prepared for a dialog," Hryshchenko said.

Today Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland has said that the Council of Europe is ready to send its observers to Ukraine for the upcoming parliamentary elections in late October 2012.

He told reporters in Strasbourg on Wednesday after meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko that the parties had discussed Ukraine’s preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for October 28, 2012.
