The Volyn district administrative court on Jan. 31 cancelled the ban on the use of Soviet symbols at mass events, earlier approved by the Lutsk legislature, the online newspaper zik.ua reported on Friday.

"But the Lutsk legislature said this ruling could be appealed," it said.

Reports said earlier that the city legislature in Lutsk banned the use of Soviet symbols at mass events in the city on April 20, 2011.

Prosecutors challenged this ruling, but the city legislature turned down the appeal on Jan. 10, 2012.

On June 17, 2011, Ukraine’s Constitutional Court qualified as unconstitutional the use of the red banner in commemoration of the Victory in World War II alongside the national flag of Ukraine.
