You're reading: Ukraine’s justice minister: anti-discrimination laws comply with EU standards

Ukraine's anti-discrimination laws do not differ much from those that exist in the European Union, Ukrainian Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych has said.

Lavrynovych discussed the anti-discrimination legislation at a meeting with German Ambassador to Ukraine Hans-Jurgen Heimsoeth in Kyiv on Friday, the Ministry’s press service reported.

The German ambassador said that the European Union was urging Ukraine to speed up the work on anti-discrimination legislation in Ukraine, and address complex issues in this area.

The justice minister argued that Ukraine’s legislation regulates most of the issues in this area and fully complies with anti-discrimination legislative that exists in the EU.

However, Ukraine still plans to adopt a strategy to combat discrimination in Ukraine, which has already been submitted to the president, Lavrynovych said.
