The Ukrainian Security Service has confirmed reports that its investigative department has opened a criminal case against a citizen of Russia and a citizen of Kazakhstan who were detained in Odesa at the end of January and in February on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack on Russian territory.

The two men are suspected of the establishment of a terrorist organization (Ukrainian Criminal Code Article 258-3) and preparation of a terrorist attack (Articles 14 and 258), it said.

The Ukrainian Security Service had confirmed on Feb. 27 that Ukrainian and Russian special services had thwarted an assassination attempt on Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin plotted by the men detained in Odesa.
