The current Constitution of Ukraine does not allow the country's entry into such unions as the Customs Union, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"According to the constitution, Ukraine has no right to join organizations that have supranational bodies. That is, we have no right to delegate part of our sovereignty and sovereign rights under the constitution," he said at a meeting with the heads of churches and the leaders of religious organizations in Kyiv on Wednesday.

"That is, if we want to join the Customs Union, we need to change the constitution, and do that in a legal way," Yanukovych said.

He also said this could be done either in parliament or at a national referendum.
