The physical protection of nuclear facilities, nuclear and radioactive materials, as well as the infrastructure related to them, is the key task of Ukraine in the sphere of fighting nuclear terrorism, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said during the Seoul Nuclear Security Summit.

"The estimation of nuclear terrorism threats in Ukraine shows that such a threat is weak in our state under normal conditions," the press service cited Yanukovych as saying.

At the same time, Yanukovych noted that Ukraine has been taking serious measures for the prevention of nuclear terrorism ahead of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

"Our country is building a rational control system on the border, and with international support is developing its own scientific and technical opportunities in the sphere of nuclear criminal expertise, which is the most important component of nuclear security, as it allows the source of discovered nuclear material to be identified," Yanukovych said.
