Chairman of the State Border Service of Ukraine Mykola Lytvyn has said that the service has been provided with everything needed to begin practical work on the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian border.

"There are all of the necessary materials at storage facilities, therefore, we will do everything after we get the instruction," he said a meeting with journalists in Kyiv on Thursday, May 10.

He also noted that there was currently an interstate demarcation commission, which is dealing with the demarcation of the border between Russia and Ukraine.

"It has already prepared the necessary documents, drafted its action plan, and there were trips to the regions. There has currently been reached agreement on the start of this work, but it has not yet started," Lytvyn said.

The press office of the service told Interfax-Ukraine that the acts of determining the location of boundary markers would be approved at the 10th meeting of the joint Ukrainian-Russian group, which will be held in Bryansk (Russia) on June 5-8.

"After that, the Ukrainian side will already start installing these markers on its territory," the service said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported earlier that Ukraine and Russia had begun the field stage of the demarcation of their joint border.

Ukraine has set the task of completing in the next few years the demarcation of the state border with Russia (2,295 kilometers) and Belarus (1,084 kilometers) and completing border demarcation with Moldova (1,222 kilometers) in 2012. The total length of the Ukrainian border is almost 6,993 kilometers, including 1,355 kilometers of maritime border.
