The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has expressed concern about selective justice in Ukraine.

"We are concerned at the selective application of justice and what appear to be politically motivated prosecutions, including of leading members of the opposition, as well as the conditions of their detention," reads a declaration, which was passed by the participants of the NATO summit in Chicago on May 20, 2012.

NATO also encouraged Ukraine to address the existing shortcomings of its judicial system to ensure full compliance with the rule of law and the international agreements to which it is a party.

"We also encourage Ukraine to ensure free, fair andinclusive parliamentary elections this autumn," reads the document.

The NATO summit took place in Chicago on May 20-21. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych also attended the event.
