NATO Secretary-General De Hoop Scheffer positively assesses implementation of Ukrainian-NATO Target Plan For 2008
November 19, 2008 at 16:18 | Ukrainian NewsThe press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry announced this to Ukrainian News.
Foreign Affairs Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko met with De Hoop Scheffer in Brussels (Belgium) on Wednesday.
Ohryzko and De Hoop Scheffer positively assessed Ukraine's implementation of the target plan for 2008 and the dynamics of the cooperation between Ukraine and NATO.
De Hoop Scheffer also noted Ukraine's efforts ‘in the north Atlantic direction" and confirmed the commitment of NATO member-countries to the decisions that they made at their Bucharest summit regarding Ukraine's prospects for becoming a NATO member.
Ohryzko and De Hoop Scheffer also discussed ways of strengthening security in Europe.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ohryzko traveled to Brussels on Tuesday for a meeting of the Ukrainian-NATO commission.
The Defense ministry has said that implementation of the Ukrainian-NATO Annual Target Plan for 2008 is problematic because of poor financing of several of the target plan's measures.
In July, NATO positively assessed Ukraine's implementation of the Ukrainian-NATO Annual Target Plan for 2008 during the January-June period of 2008.
Ukraine approves Ukrainian-NATO target plans annually.
