Andriy Honcharuk, Presidential Secretariat Deputy Head Kyiv, November 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The current domestic political situation in Ukraine is hindering the taking of a decision on the NATO Membership Action Plan, Presidential Secretariat Deputy Head Andriy Honcharuk has said.

He said, while forecasting the results of a session of the Foreign Ministers Council of NATO member states to be held on December 2-3, that Ukraine's drive to receive full membership of NATO would certainly continue.

Honcharuk said Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko believes a decision on granting Ukraine the MAP, which is not a final decision on joining the alliance, will be taken after both Ukraine and NATO are ready for it.

He said the MAP is one instrument, along with other forms and mechanisms of cooperation, which is used by NATO for developing relations with partners and preparing countries for NATO membership.

"It is not ruled out that new forms of integration into NATO will emerge along the way, because even a MAP has not existed since the first days of the alliance," he said.

In fact, Kyiv has operated in a MAP framework for quite a long time by successfully implementing NATO-Ukraine target plans, he said.

Honcharuk said NATO membership is an issue "of the national security and independence of Ukraine."

In this context he urged not to politicize the issue of Ukraine's efforts to join a program, which has effectively been running for a long time and has been largely completed.
