Kyiv (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian President Victor Yuschenko said the government should provide funds for children adoption, state assistance to orphans and those lacking parental care, the presidential press service reported on Monday.

"For the provision of children's rights according to existing law, I call for the provision in the 2009 state budget of funds for the adoption of children, state assistance for orphans and those lacking parental care, those in care, in foster families, and those in family type orphanages," reads the report.

Yuschenko also called for funds to be allocated for one-time payments to women designated as "Mother-heroines" as stipulated in order No.1254 of December 25, 2007.

As of January 1, 2009, aid is introduced to Ukrainians for the adoption of children in the same amount as the payment for the birth of a first child, and state aid for children in care is to be increased.
