European Union, Ukraine to realize joint project on integration of country with European Transport Networks until 2011

The project on the assistance to Ukraine's integration with the Trans-European Transport Networks started in September and will last for 29 months.
The objective of the TEN-T project is Ukraine's integration with the transport networks of the European Union, as well as integration of Russia, Belarus, and other countries with the transport networks of Europe.
The project is being carried out to facilitate passenger and cargo traffic and includes creation of transport corridors and realization of other projects.
The funding of the project of EUR 6 million is a grant of the European Union to Ukraine.
The aim of the TACIS program is to develop the transport sector of Ukraine through rendering assistance to the Transport and Communications Ministry in drawing up and realization of coordinated transport policies and the strategies for al kinds of transport.
In particular, the project provides for assistance of consultants in defining priorities in raising investment, the holding of pre-project grounds and paper work for raising investment.
The realization of the project will also yield a national plan for the development of the transport sector for the mid- and long-term period: from 2011 through 2015 and from 2011 through 2030.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, France, Austria, and Poland has started to implement jointly with Ukraine a project to improve safety of road ic in Ukraine from May 2008 until May 2010.
