Naftohaz CEO: $418 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas breaks Russian-Ukrainian agreements

January 03 at 21:17 | Interfax-Ukraine
(Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy said that the price of $418 per 1,000 cubic meters for gas supplies in 2009 breaks previous agreements laid out in a memorandum between the governments of Ukraine and Russia about the cooperation in gas sector and an agreement between Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russian gas company Gazprom signed in October of 2008

Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Oleh Dubyna said this in a statement on Saturday.

He said such a price of gas for Ukraine is unprecedented economic pressure and is impeding the operation of industrial enterprises and housing utilities companies.

He also said they wanted to return the system of receiving gas, not cash, as compensation for shipping Russian gas through its territory.
