Ukraine will have to pay for illegally siphoned Russian gas at a market price of $450 per 1,000 cubic meters, Russian gas giant Gazprom has said.

"The stolen gas cannot be repaid at another price. This is gas that was not received by European consumers, and it should be [paid for] at this price," Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said on the NTV television channel.

Medvedev is currently representing Gazprom's interests in Paris.

He expressed hope that EU countries would call for Ukraine to resume talks with Russia on gas supplies.
