Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has suggested that the Regions Party hold an internal investigation into the activities of former Prosecutor General and party MP Sviatoslav Piskun, who sanctioned legal proceedings against his fellow faction MP Borys Kolesnykov.

This was reported to Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday by the head of Public Relations and International Activity Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Inna Kysel, quoting the minister, who was commenting on the decision of Regions Party to form a temporary parliamentary investigation commission on the illegal arrest of former head of Donetsk Regional Council Borys Kolesnykov.

Speaking about the sentencing of the former owner of the Bely Lebed trade center, Borys Penchuk, Lutsenko said that “it is a logical end to the case, in which Penchuk pled guilty of giving false evidence.” On the other hand, the minister said the sentence was too harsh.

This looks like a cynical punishment of a man who dared to publish a book called the ‘Donetsk Mafia’,” the press service said, quoting the minister.

As reported, the Regions Party faction has called for the formation of a temporary parliamentary investigation commission on the illegal arrest of the former head of Donetsk Regional Council Borys Kolesnykov. This was reported by Regions Party MP Nestor Shufrych.

As reported, Kolesnykov was arrested on April 6, 2005, on suspicion of blackmailing, transferring stolen property, and making a threat of murder. The case concerned securities in the Bely Lebed trade center in Donetsk. The former director of this center, Borys Penchuk, said that he and his family had been obliged to sell the center’s shares for a small amount of money because of the murder threat.

On March 2 2009 head of Anticorruption Foundation Borys Penchuk was sentenced to eight years in prison and the seizure of his property.
