Right-wing Svoboda Party wins elections to Ternopil Oblast council.

Seven political parties won seats on the Ternopil Oblast council after the March 15 elections. Svoboda, a once-marginal right-wing party, showed the best results and gained 50 seats in the 120-seat council. The United Center Party came in second, taking 20 seats, while Party of Regions won 14 mandates. The oblast's former favorite, Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, only received eight percent of the votes that translated into 12 seats in the council. The nationalistic Ukrainian People’s Party won 11 seats, pro-presidential Our Ukraine received eight seats and Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn’s bloc received the other five.
