Ukraine, South Korea consider creating association for inter-parliamentary ties
March 29, 2009 at 20:01 | Ukrainian NewsUkraine and South Korea are considering the possibility of creating an association for Ukrainian-Korean inter-parliamentary ties. The press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry announced this in a statement. Ukraine's Ambassador to South Korea Volodymyr Belashov and the Korean National Assembly's Secretary-General Park Kye Dong discussed creation of the association on March 27. They also discussed ways of stepping up inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries, including a visit to Ukraine by Park on April 3-5, the progress of the preparation for a visit to South Korea by Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, and sharing of experience on foreign policy and legislative issues between the two countries' parliaments. Belashov called on Park to facilitate adoption of a document honoring the memory of the victims of the 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine in the Korean National Assembly. As Ukrainian News earlier reported, South Korea's President Lee Myung-bak and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan plan to visit Ukraine in 2009. |
