The Constitutional Court has ruled that proposals to the Ukrainian president on the candidacy of the prime minister and members of the Cabinet can only be made by coalitions of factions in the Ukrainian parliament.

Constitutional Court Chairman Andriy Stryzhak promulgated on Thursday the Court's ruling passed on April 28.

The notion of the Verkhovna Rada coalition formed in line with Article 83 of the Ukrainian constitution incorporates not only the coalition formed in a newly elected parliament but also the coalition formed in case of the termination of activities of the previous coalition, he said.

Deputy head of the Ukrainian Presidential Secretariat Maryna Stavniychuk described as predictable the Court's judgment on labor agreements and the nomination of a candidate for prime minister by the new coalition.

"Both judgments of the Ukrainian Constitutional Court were expected by the Ukrainian president and basically corresponded to his arguments," she told the media on Thursday.
