First Deputy Interior Minister Mykhailo Kliuyev will serve as Ukraine's interior minister during Yuriy Lutsenko's suspension from duty, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said.

“The government is a law-abiding body, and if the Verkhovna Rada decides that the first deputy [interior] minister will fulfill his [Lutsenko’s] duties until the end of investigation, then he will do that. After the end of investigation, I think the parliament will take the necessary decisions,” she said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

On May 15, the Ukrainian parliament passed a resolution asking the government to hold a-seven-day official investigation into an alleged incident involving Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

According to the document, the government should suspend Lutsenko from his post for the time of the investigation.

The Cabinet of Ministers is to report to the Verkhovna Rada about the results of the inquiry
