A proposed "Ukrainian Las Vegas" can only built with prior permission from local communities, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has stated.

“Speaking about possible locations for the Ukrainian Las Vegas, I think it can only be built with prior permission from local communities. How can we do it without their permission? If the local community is ready to welcome such a thing on its territory, we will consider it for the venue,” she said at a press conference on Friday.

Speaking about the possible reimbursement of the license fees paid by the companies, Tymoshenko said: “We are studying the situation and have to inspect the whole system”.

Tymoshenko said she welcomed the parliament’s bill on banning the gambling business in Ukraine.

According to her, Ukraine has an unusually high number of gambling halls (over 100,000), which “take the last money from families, which don’t have much, and which corrupt young Ukrainians.”

According to the prime minister, a fine totaling 8,000 minimum wages would be a good reason not to start gambling again.

“I hope the president will sign [bill] and protect the nation from being destroyed,” she said.
