Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has scolded the Prosecutor General's Office for what she sees as ineffective prosecution of violations uncovered by the Main Control and Auditing Chamber, also known as KRU and headed by Tymoshenko confidant Mykola Sivulsky.

Tymoshenko said KRU has uncovered numerous financial violations from 2006-2007, in which more than hr 20 billion in state funds were stolen. But, the Prosecutor General's Office has not launched any criminal cases on these findings.

The Prosecutor General's Office virtually ignores reports from KRU, she said adding that leadership of the prosecutor office should reshuffled.

Last week, Sivulsky revealed findings that Ukraine’s defense ministry, headed by Yury Yekhanurova, a confidant of President Victor Yushchenko, had illegally transferred ownership of 53 land plots with a total area of 266 hectares to private interests.

Sivulsky’s KRU chamber also found possible signs of corruption in the defense ministry’s purchase of food for soldiers, fuel and lubricants, at inflated prices.
