Ukraine, Russia discuss overcoming consequences of accident in Kerch Strait in November 2007

Ukraine and Russia have discussed the cleanup work following multiple ship wrecks and oil spills during a storm in the Kerch Strait in November 2007, according to Vasyl Kyrylych, the press secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The seventh meeting of the Ukrainian–Russian ad hoc group on overcoming the consequences of the accident in the Kerch Strait in 2007 was held in Kerch on May 29, Kyrylych said at a briefing on Monday.

At the meeting, the state of the implementation decisions taken at the group's previous meetings was discussed, as was a plan of joint measures to liquidate the accident's consequences in the Kerch Strait and adjacent waters of the Black and Azov Seas.

In addition, the sides discussed the issue on ensuring navigational and ecological safety in the region.
