British Mott MacDonald to assist in attraction of investments for modernization of Ukraine's gas transport system

The Mott MacDonald company, Britain, intends to assist in the attraction of investments for the modernization of the gas transport system of Ukraine in compliance with the Joint declaration on the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system of March 23, the presidential press service said.

Representatives of the British company announced this intention at the meeting with presidential envoy for energy issues Bohdan Sokolovskyi.

The sides also discussed the prospects of provision of the company's consulting services on the energy market of Ukraine, holding of marketing researches on the increase of technologic ability of oil refining and gas transport infrastructure of Ukraine.

At the same time, Sokolovskyi informed the interlocutors about the position of President Viktor Yuschenko, who insists on the fact that the Ukrainian authorities should become a key player on the domestic market of oil products and guarantee reliability and diversification of oil supplies.

He also said that the president has several times urged the Cabinet of Ministers to recover the Ukrainian oil refining sector, create transparent and competitive rules on the market of oil products.

In the frames of the Kyiv energy summit of May 22, 2008, the Mott MacDonald company presented the results of a marketing research it held for the Ukrtransnafta company.

The researches of the company confirmed economic expediency for the creation of modern high-tech oil refining complex in Ukraine and also the expediency of use of the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline in the direction of Brody.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on March 23, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the European Commission signed a Joint declaration, which urged the Cabinet of Ministers to provide independence of the gas transport system operator.
